Plans & Billing
How Levain plans, metered usage, and spend controls work.
Levain bills two things: a monthly plan fee and metered usage. Each plan includes a monthly credit allowance that covers usage as your agents run; once it's spent, further usage draws from a prepaid balance you top up. The plan fee is charged directly to your saved card. Every model call your agents make is recorded and visible per run, so you can always trace a charge back to the work that caused it.
Plans
There are three plans:
- Free — the Levain agent, full stop. No building, no template or managed-agent adoption — those start on Team.
- Team — build and run your own agents, with unlimited live agents. Team is a single plan with a credit ladder: pick how many credits you want each month and the fee scales to match, with a better rate as you go up.
- Enterprise — everything in Team, plus agents and integrations built with our team and enterprise-grade controls.
See the pricing page for current allowances, fees, and what each plan includes.
Credits are the unit your agents' work is metered in. The allowance refreshes each calendar month and unused credits don't roll over; usage beyond it draws from a prepaid balance you top up. Top-ups buy credits at the pay-as-you-go rate and never expire; every plan includes credits at a better rate, improving as you size up. With Bring Your Own Key — available on Team and up — your credits stretch much further.
New workspaces start on Free. Upgrading to Team, or changing your Team size, is self-serve under Settings → Billing → Plan and takes effect immediately — the fee is charged to your saved card right away, then each month. Downgrades and Enterprise go through support.
Metered usage
As your agents run, their model calls are metered in credits. Your monthly allowance is spent first; only usage beyond it draws from your prepaid balance. The usage page breaks this down — remaining credits for the month, and the cost and credits for every agent and run — so a charge always traces back to the work behind it.
Work Levain does to run the platform itself, like keeping your knowledge base up to date, is on us and never metered. You're billed for your own agents, the builder when you use it, and any managed agents you adopt.
With Bring Your Own Key (Team and up), you pay your provider directly for tokens and your credits cover the remaining costs of running your agents.
Monthly fees
The plan fee is charged directly to your saved card, separate from the usage balance — so a spend cap or an empty balance never affects it:
- Team carries a monthly fee that scales with the size you pick; Free has none.
- It's charged immediately when you upgrade, then on the same day each month.
- Sizing up mid-cycle applies the larger allowance at once and bills the prorated difference right away.
- If a charge fails, we retry for a few days; if it still can't be collected, the workspace returns to Free.
Spend controls
Two independent knobs, both under Settings → Billing:
- Monthly spend limit — caps metered usage per calendar month. When month-to-date usage reaches the cap, agents pause until the month rolls over or you raise the limit. Plan fees don't count against the cap. The usage page shows progress against it.
- Auto top-up — recharges the credit balance from your saved card when it falls below a threshold, so a busy agent doesn't stall mid-task.
When the balance runs out, agents pause and you're notified; work resumes as soon as credit lands. A turn already in flight is allowed to finish — Levain accepts overshooting by one turn rather than killing in-progress work.
Invoices
Every top-up produces a real invoice, listed under Settings → Billing → Invoices with PDF downloads. Business details (address, tax IDs) shown on invoices are configured on the same page.
